Air Transat's New A330 And Fleet Plans

Hi,
by looking in Transport Canada's database, I've remarked a new A330.
TS in never really explicit on fleet plans, it's never in their press releases or news. Although it's a charter airline owned by the Transat Group and I can understand that it's less important for them to unveil fleet plans, are they anymore A330s to come? And what about the 6th A310 they were suppose to receive? And when is the Tristar retirement planned?

I know those are maybe childish questions, but it's just interesting to know how they're doing mainly because we don't talk much of them on A.net. And, as I previously cited, don't know much about their fleet plans.

Hey Safeflyer,
good questions, not childish questions at all!

TS did indeed recently add a 3rd new 332 (they also have a single 333). They seem to be slowly building their 332/333 and 313 fleet, while winding down L10 & 752 ops. I understand the L10 fleet is used mainly for backup & peak periods & some have been retired already. The L15 fleet has been added to recently and probably will remain for years to come. The wind-down of the 752 fleet is surprising as it is the most cost effective aircraft (from a seat mile basis) although perhaps they are planning to move to an all-Airbus fleet & the 752 just did not fit.

That's my take on it!

Regards
Neil

OK Neil, maybe it's not so childish after all. I only said that because some members on the forums are easy on critics.  Big grin

TS has withdrawn the 1011-1 or that's at least what a was told by a TS passenger service agent. And If you surf the database of TS Tristars, you'll notice that there has been no photos taken since last summer.

Now, the question is, does speechless TS will add other 330s in the near future?

Oh and BTW, I went for some spotting this weekend at YYZ. They were using 06L and 05  Smile Perfect to watch the planes take-off in the pool of the T.O
Airport Marriott  Smile/happy/getting dizzy My... when are they going to close T1, it's a disgrace for all canadian travellers. The arrival level looks like the bus terminal in Ottawa.

TS added the latest 332 (fresh off the Airbus production line) by leasing it, not buying it. Airlines generally tend not to announce smaller aircraft orders & even less so when the aircraft are leased, as opposed to purchasing.

The order for the 332 (ILFC I presume) was probably placed by the leasing company as part of a larger order. ILFC will then try to place the aircraft ordered with airlines prior to delivery (if they don't have airlines lined up prior to the order). For popular aircraft such as the 738, 332....many leasing companies will place orders in anticipation of placing the aircraft prior to delivery. The order for the 332 would have been announced by Airbus and/or ILFC....the eventual placement of the aircraft with a specific airline is often not announced.

Funny Air Transat wants to get rid of their 752's since they are their most reliable aircraft. YYZ717 is right in saying the L1011-1's are being used for back-up as I was on one 2 months ago, so I don't think they are retired. I heard plans that they were to put one 1011-1 in YYZ, another in YMX, and finally 1 more in CDG to help them with their on-time performance. Seems silly to me though, for they still have to get personnel from Montreal!

A lot of the L1011-150s are or have been broken up in Quebec. Thats to bad,I was just on one that was just broken up last August (C-FTNC)

Sorry, I forgot to mention in my previous post that the 1011-1 had been withdrawn from REGULAR service.

Sorry for that.

B747-400, altough I love the good old 1011-150s, C-FTNC had a lot of cycles and was built in 1972 so I personally think that it was time for retirement. It's a bit sad to see such good planes go after nearly 15 years with TS, but every plane has to be retired, one day or another... we will probably say the same thing for the good old 330s in 25 years.

hey hey, easy on the T1 comment! Yes it looks horrible, but we in Toronto love it  Smile

I wish they could leave it erect for the pleasure of all spotters in Toronto.  Smile Hope you like the wording.

What's that Nuno? Erect spotters?  Big grin

T1's days are numbers. Perhaps its only deeming feature is the fantastic overhead view of aircraft parked at T1. It will be torn down in 2003.

Hey, for spotting, T1 is certainly the best, no doubt. (The elevators to the parking are scary but I'm scared of any elevator, no offense their) But I meant more like for the look for the arriving foreigner, it's not quite attractive.
It looks like YUL a bit on the outside or at least from my point of view .(Don't want to start a Mtl vs Tor please)

By reading some of the post here, I've come to conclusion that TS has now only 2 757s left in it's fleet???

I saw a TS L-1011 take-off at YUL this morning.

They are intending to go all Airbus according to a reliable source.

How old are the AT 757-200s. I flew on them from Ft Lauterdale to Toronto and back in April and May. They seemed very old to me and very used. Maybe Im wrong but can anyone enlighten me????

Cheers

Of the 5 TS 752's (well, they had 5 until last year), 2 were built in 92, 2 in 93 & 1 in 96.

These are young aircraft.

Those are pretty young. It must just be that they all have very high utilisation. I suppose it is a charter carrier and the planes are used a lot. Very good few flights on them though I must add.
