Now that India's Minister of Civil Aviation, Sharad Yarav, has finally been replaced, look for Air India to do the following:
a) acquire 3 more Boeing 747-400
b) acquire 4 more Airbus A310s
c) inaugurate MAA-CDG-EWR service
d) inaugurate MAA-CDG-YYZ service
e) carry out a EWR-BOM nonstop proving flight sometime in the very near future
It's a new day. Every moment matters. Now, more than ever.

Is the new minister Shahnawaz Hussain being supporting of the privatization process or is he intending to keep Air India in government owned?
AI744LR, I think DeltaSFO is good friend with B747437B who is sadly being deleted and banned by Administrator. Maybe he is got his information from there.

Jaysit, Air India has flied before twice from Madras to Paris. In early 1990s they are having flight AI 128 from London to Paris to Madras with 747-200 plane and in mid 1990s they are having flights from London to Paris to Kuwait to Madras with Airbus 310 plane. There is lots of traffic for this market because of Pondicherry connection with France.

Shanawaz HUssain is a complete newcomer to the aviation field, and wouldnt the difference between a Jet and a Prop.
He was a huge embarassment when he was interviewd on Star News hoiurs after he was sworn in.
The only plus in his favor is that he is pro-disinvestment.
But whether he and Run SHourie can really dodge beauracrats like Baijal, and the machinations of the "Jet Airways lobby" remains to be seen. I seriously doubt it.

Why exactly was he removed, considering he was one of the most knowledgeable contributors to this forum ?

There is not enough of a market between Pondicherry and France for a 3 weekly Madras-Paris service. The flight, if initiated, would essentially be a South India-US connection. However, as usual, I think AI has it wrong. Instead of one service here and another there, develop Bombay as a major hub enabling daily services to European cities and US cities. If I were a passenger flying from Chennai or Bangalore to the US or Europe, I would rather have the choice of a one-stop daily service to Paris or Frankfurt or Newark rather than a twice weekly non-stop. Of course, that would mean buying smaller aircraft for Intra-India feeder services, developing Bombay into a convenient, user-friendly hub, etc - initiatives that the Indian govt has neither the brains nor the talent to do.

Jaysit,
On the contrary, think about companies in the US needing direct access to South India, the heart of the Indian software industry. In fact, I think if implemented, this route may be a money maker.
In any case, what is the exact situation? Are these just speculations or are they genuine plans? Anyone?

Jaysit: i have to agree with u on this one. and AI can operate domestic runs with their 3 A300's, which are virtually idle, so they dont need to go for smaller aircraft at all. For feedign trafficx from the smaller airports where A300's cannot operate, they can tie up with a local carrier like 9W, since IC is playing hard to get.
The Canadian carrier C3000 has just tied up with IC for a hub and spoke arrangement, wherein pax from Canada can interline onto domestic IC flights to select destinations.
