I believe that the shot above does not show all of FX's ramp at MEM.

That is just awesome! It amazes me when they get going how fast they load those and get them out. When you listen to ATC its just amazing the sheer number of planes going in and out at night.

Long Term Parking Lot, but be careful. The folks at MEM don't like photographers around their airport.

It is quite impressive. I flew through there back in January and it's even more impressive when you're down there among the big birds (mostly MD-10s, A300s, A310s when I was there). Plus, that's only the west ramp. We flew in on a MD-11 from LAX to the east ramp where it was mostly other MD-11s around. From what I heard, they will be taking over the Tenn. ANG area at some point.

Yup! Picnic table, 3 rocking chairs, 3 patio chairs AND we can smoke! EWR crews that get stuck in MEM usually don't mind a bit. We're in C-terminal so taxiway-J begins where ramp ends and 18/36C is one more taxiway over. I guess I'm so used to seeing FedEX every day that I do forget how cool it is that I can sit and watch them all day and night!

TN ANG is currently building a C-5 Galaxy facility w/3 hangars capable of fully enclosing an entire C-5 and will have from 8-11 or 13 there at any given time. Right now there's 4 parked down there, and they usually have up to 7, so they're missing a few. Sometimes they play w/F-16's or F-18's, which is pretty damn cool to watch. One Saturday, they had 10 taking off in tandem on 18C/L. They would get up to min. alt. for turns, then hit the afterburners and split as the next pair took off. Baaad-ass!

And to think I have heard that FedEx wants to make IND a larger hub than MEM because there is no more room to expand. From looking at this picture, there is no way that IND could ever have more flights than MEM. Unless when the new terminal opens the old one will be flatten and FedEx uses that space for more gate space.

Not only do you get to see those great looking FedEx jets, but you can see C-5 Galaxies at the Tennessee Air National Guard. I once went out to view the takeoffs, and watched a mechanic standing up inside the C-5 engine, and added bonus you might say!

A little off topic, but why didn't FX buy 747's??

Possibly some truth to this. I visit IND somewhat regularly and have heard this from some residents. There is a lot of real estate on that side of the field that would be very usable once the old terminal complex is removed.

A little more off topic, but did FedEx close the door entirely on the A380 or would they revisit that plane next decade?

I think FedEx will have 777s in a few years. I also wonder if having 777s might allow them to think about 747BCFs as those 747-400s leave passenger service. Any thoughts on that possibility?

No. Will revisit the idea soon.

The 757 first flight is 5/28. Seven a/c by year's end will be in the rotation with 35 trained crews.
