Hello everybody , I was just looking for your opionion on this subject.
I work in baggage claim in DUB and normall luggage is delivered quite quickly buy on occasion there unfortunatley can be delays, Ive done some work at EDI for BA and have seen some crazy luggage delays there aswell.
When I say luggage delay, just to be clear I meen the time from when the aircraft goes on block to when all the baggage is delivered, so what is a reasonable waiting time and what are your expierences with delays, who do you blame, what sprt of explanations have you had?

It ranges for me. I don't like to wait more than 10 min after I arrive at the baggage claim. I have waited upwards of 45 minutes at BDL. Sometimes the airlines in the A terminal are so slow. Especially NW. Everyone else seems to move at a good pace.

Waited about 5 minutes last week at BOS (on DL) - tags were marked priority (and they were among the first 15 bags off) and it helped that we parked at the main terminal and not the satellite - makes it easier.
At GSO today (on CO) it took about 8 minutes after I got off the plane. Enough time to use the facilities, get downstairs and 3 minutes later the belt started.

My worst experiences have always been at MAN. It takes forever.
The best experience has been at BOM (out of airport in less than 15 mins from aircraft arriving at the gate - including the long walk, immigration, baggage reclaim, customs including the crazy xraying of baggage on exiting the airport).
The only time my bag arrived amongst the first ones was at CPH & that did surprise me. Usually I am one of the last ones to leave the belt as my bag/s are always amongst the last ones to arrive. I am sure the baggage handlers all over have a conspiracy to inconvenience/irritate me

Worst for me was at LHR T2 in 2004 - they were refurbishing the arrivals area meaning that only 2 carousels were in operation.
Within 10 min of my LH flight arriving, there were also about 12 other arrivals, meaning that the whole thing was chaos. Had to wait about 45 min for my bags, amongst lots of confused Italians! Most of the Germans on my flight were moaning about how inefficient us Brits are at organizing things too!

Worst: Rome FCO , tagged:'Priority' Time = 1:15'
Quickest: Vienna (on an Emirates flight), fortunately priorities worked this time 20 minutes after landing and collecting 8 suitcases I was outside in the snow!

I love Incheon in Korea. Pretty consistent the luggage starts when I reach the belt. This can be less then 10 min after leaving the plane. They are mostly pretty good at immigration as well with lets say 2 min waiting time (but it depends how many planes arrive at the same time).
Quoting Leskova (Reply 3): My fastest times were at either HAJ (less than 5 minutes) or FRA (bags already on belt when I arrived - but I had to wait a while in immigration).
For FRA it is very inconsistent: There are times when the luggage already starts circling on the belt (about 20 min after get off - due to long ways and some immigration delay), but I also had times of 50 min as well.
Average in FRA is rather like 30-35 min as I experience.

CO at EWR is horrendous. If you're arriving into Terminal C, you have a guaranteed wait of 20 minutes, minimum. One time the carousel started moving 15 minutes after we got there (probably about 25 minutes after the flight arrived at the gate), and I was shocked. Usually, we don't leave the airport until a solid hour after we've arrived, which is incredibly frustrating. Slow baggage claim can leave pax with a strongly negative feeling about a flight even if everything else went well, and for what I consider to be a very solid airline, CO at EWR in Terminal C is awful in this regard.
Oddly enough, when I started flying back and forth to BOS for school from Terminal A, it's been super speedy -- usually less than 10 minutes after the flight arrives. Go figure.

My worst experiences were MAD and RNO (admittedly I only go to RNO at Burning Man season, so *everything* is slow). DTW is usually quick. SFO is usually quick-ish. I waited over an hour for my bag at RNO. I waited a good half hour at MAD.
I really would like to see everyone's bags be off a small aircraft within 15 minutes. At SBA it's often 10 for a CRJ-sized plane.
A larger plane I can buy 20-25 after passengers arrive in the baggage hall. I was impressed, however, at my last trip through LHR, I had 1:10 of connection time and my bags made it.

At DAB/DL, we aim for 8 minutes. Of course, that's pretty easy for us to do because it's a short distance.
One time at PHL/US I waited over 15 minutes AFTER I had arrived at the baggage claim (so about 30 minutes after we we're parked at the gate.) The bags came out about one every 20 seconds, which was even more insane. And of course my bag was near last, so between getting into the gate and grabbing my bag, it was about 45 minutes. I'm not joking or exaggerating.

Yep. Even after the long passport queues, it takes a long time before any bag starts coming out. Then you gotta wait after the BusinessFirst / priority bags come out (if you're in economy) and it takes quite a long time.
The best would be HKG, my bag is already there by the time I get out of immigration.

Can't say i've had a baggage delay . When i flew from SYD to MAN via LHR ( to wacth the champions league final 0 my naggage came out within 30 min of landing. And when i caught my flight from MAN to ATH via LHR baggage came out within 30 min again. Generaly speaking can't say i've had any delays or significant delays with luggage. Although i must say when i arrived into ATH from ZTH it took nearly 40 MIN for my bags to arrive!!!
However upon arrival back to SYD it took 1 hour almost . Cheers!!!

CDG is usually bad for luggage delivery. 45 min is very usual However, they have made considerable progress regarding the priority tagged luggage (which were the last ones most of the times )

In MEM, it's usually whoever is doing baggage service waiting for PASSENGERS to get their bags, (unless 2 flts w/55 bags each hit the gate at the same time with 3 people working the whole ramp) especially on the RONs. But, we do arrive into C terminal and drop the bags in B, and even though there are 4 or 5 signs from the a/c door thru the gate, I do understand the semi-confusion even though I make on-board announcement when I meet the plane and 2 on terminal-wide system when I close the doors. Oh, baggage claim in all 3 terminals is pretty well marked also. The really amusing part is that while I'm waiting for our pax, (we share 5 belts w/NW & they pretty much suck) pax from all airlines whose claim is in A or C are usually wandering around B!

Terminal 1 LHR you can expect to wait an hour after arriving in the baggage hall and South Terminal at LGW. Don't know if anyone agrees but they always seem to take hours at LGW. Once I waited 90 mins for our luggage to appear, at a time when the airport wasn't even busy.
NRT has been the fastest so far. Bags ready when I got there.

This is the thing that irritates me the most while traveling - waiting for your bags! LHR T4 is shocking (45-60 min on avaerage) and DXB is not much better (30 minutes or so). These times have been what I have on average experianced. I must say that the smaller US airports are very good, like TPA, SAT, BNA. always already on the carousal by the time I get there.
The worst for me, and sad to say so, is CPT. Sad cause my home city, but you go to the belt that the board instructs, then the person over the intercom says its another belt and then while standing there, it is actually arrived on completely different belt altogether. This has not happened once, but my last 3 times through International Arrivals.

Waiting 20minutes is OK when you are in any NW/CO hub airport. I have waited over an hour at DTW for Luggage to arrive from the plane which was parked two gates down from where the baggage enters the terminal. At EWR we waited for about 35 minutes after we arrived at the luggage retrieval area, we decided to grab a bite to eat since we did not have anything to eat from DFW to EWR on CO although we were suppose to.
Life is a highway, I just can't find the on ramp. Cheers!

i work in T2 at MAN, delays happen mostly in the morning when the terminal is at its near full capacity, theres nothing we can do about this, but believe me our handlers try their best to get all baggage off on time.....
some carriers do make it very hard work mind......
