Can anyone confirm whether RB does or does not still operate the 74L? I have read conflicting things. Thanks.

Edited: it's a massive shame that RB doesn't nowdays fly the 74L DAM-LHR-DAM: you can buy a tax-incl. return for £297.

No, unfortunately, RB grounded its 747SPs a few weeks ago. Only A320s (and possibly 727s) are flown internationally now.

It is confirmed. Syrian Air has retired its B747SP from service.

Thanks, but where's the proof of their retirement? I ask because I keep reading conflicting things, both on sites like A.net and in timetables, e.g. Amadeus and Iranair's own GDS.

Speaking of RB, I'm flying them to Berlin in a few weeks time. Does anyone know what I can expect on board and what the service is like?

Do you have any proof for that. They are still listed in the Amadeus for DAM-DXB-DAM.  Smile

Indeed. But also others, e.g. DAM-MOW-DAM and DAM-AUH-DAM. And also in RB's booking engine.

It could, of course, simply be that the info hasn't been updated. Alternatively, it could be that the 74L still operates.

There are several photos of YK-AHB in flight @ SVO from as recently as the 29th of March this year. If this aircraft has been retired, it only happened very recently.

This is todays flight at 18:00 DAM time. So any DXB people should go to the airport and tell us whether the B747SP lands at 21:50 or not.  Smile

The rumours have been in the last month or two. Perhaps they meant to be withdrawn, rather than have been? Who knows?  Smile

I can confirm YK-AHB operated RB Sched flight into DXB mid morning on Thursday 15th May.YK-AHA was seen about 2 weeks ago but had an engine problem and sat here for 2days awaiting repairs.Had the pleasure of stepping back in time on that beauty a short while ago. They're 34 years old I believe now.

Thanks.

So £80-odd one-way tax-inclusive to fly the 74L DAM-DXB is a brilliant deal (unless, of course, it's substituted for a boring 320).

There's always that risk with RB, but the 74L is worth trying for. I took a flight on one of Iran Air's 'SPs last weekend (PEK-NRT) and it was a great ride.

About 19 quid!

It was a ZED (Zonal Employee Discount) ticket, as I work for an airline that has a ZED agreement with IR  Smile

It was announced already a few weeks ago, early April.
If some flights are still operated with the 74L, it shouldn't last long anymore.

I believe that they will retire them for real. I just checked the Amadeus again and found that from end of August in they will only operate A320´s to DXB.

Same goes for AUH and MOW. No more scheduled 747´s. Sad
