I noticed that as well and was surprised so see so many skips, however, not surprised by using the letter "D", since a lot of passengers have complained about Smith and Mac both using "B" and "C" (people making a connection on another carrier but being directed to the wrong gates (like asking "where is B-10" and being directed to "B-10" but not stating for what airline--- it's happened a lot!).
Deposit brain at door, Agent will babysit you to your gate.

Quoting AznMadSci (Reply 4): If/When CO decides to leave Skyteam, would they have to move to DTW North?
I don't know if the would "have" to, but I wouldn't be surprised. By a rough look, they have about 15 daily to ERW,CLE and IAH. They could easly take up D-17, D-18, D-19 and then the North would have the three WCAA gates.
I am surprised that NK only took 3. I know they have slightly trimmed DTW, put with FLL short on space, I wouldn't be surprised to see them re-up DTW with a couple more flights and take up another gate.
For those who know more about DTW than i do, if NK wanted/needed another gate, could they take D-15, therefore pushing F9 and FL down one gate to D-16 and D-17 since D-17 is vacant?

Quoting Super80DFW (Reply 6): What is the total gate count for the McNamara Terminal A Gates? Isn't it around 100 gates?
It is actually only 65 gates! back in 2002 I watched this video on it and they said that at the time, the terminal had 99 gates (66 on A, 33 on B and C). This was before they dismantled one gate on A for the baggage sorting facility, and before the expansion of B and C.

I seriously doubt NK will do anything but continue to shrink its DTW presence. At one point not too long ago, NK was still requesting 8-gates in the North Terminal. That's almost 1/3 of the total. Finally, last fall, the airline adjusted its schedules and soon after cut the gate request in half. It now has dropped by one more, for a total of 3. Virtually all of NK's current growth has been @ FLL, and supposedly it will start growing in SAT also. The DTW market does not fit within the new direction of NK. Therefore, its presence will not be significant here for the foreseeable future.
If CO leaves SkyTeam, which is likely, a relocation from McNamara to the North Terminal will almost certainly occur. NW/DL will not want CO over there if they're not part of the alliance.
Both LH and RJ will move to the new facility almost immediately after it opens. They will use WCAA gates until the widebody international gates are completed late next spring. Looking forward to seeing LH's 744 @ DTW starting in Oct.
As for USA3000, the airline just announced that all Florida flying is getting axed this summer, with the exception of RSW. That means quite a bit of capacity has been cut from DTW's seasonal schedule. Either way, the airline would/will use a WCAA gate, since it is not a signatory carrier.
I think it's a bad decision to use D as the designator for the North Terminal gates. While I somewhat understand the reasoning, that facility is not linked to the McNamara. Therefore, it doesn't need to continue the concourse lettering system established there. I don't believe they need a concourse letter designator whatsoever. It's just North Terminal Gates 1-32 or whatever. With LH & RJ moving over to the North Terminal, both will be within the facility of its codeshare and/or alliance partner. Therefore, the vast majority of the miniscule number of passengers currently transferring between terminals will become virtually nonexistent. The airport is going from three terminals to two, further narrowing the options of which facility passengers will use. I don't see the need for D-gates there.
I don't think there is enough traffic between the two terminals that any type of rail connection would be cost efficiant.
Exactly. The vans between the terminals server the connecting traffic just fine. No reason to waste money on an expensive rail system that will see little use.

Am I missing something here? Have you been to DTW recently? Where do you think the North Terminal is being built? The Davey Terminal is already gone. Seriously, not trying to be completely sarcastic...but this is mostly common knowledge.
