Brazilian Airline OceanAir has announced that it will cut 600 jobs, on top of 200 that were lost only recently.
The airline, that has listed on is fleet 16 F100s, 5 F50s, 3 767-300s, 1 757s and 3 737. 1 767 and and teh 737s, it took over from collapsed airline BRA. OceanAir has made the decision to operate just 10 F100s and ditch everythinge else. It will stop serving 12 destinations in Brazil. Oceanair had previously aborted its international ambitions by dropping MEX and putting on hold plans to start Luanda.
This is a huge blow to the ambitions of Oceanair, whose April figures showed a surge in passenegrs carried and a better load factor -this on the back of unsustainable heavy discounting. The airline has hopes of restarting its expansion after this crush, but only after thh Airbuses it has ordered -A320/A319s and A330s start arriving next year-
OceanAir has also said that along with this restructuring will come a long announced change in name to Avianca.
An expected strategy for the whole group is to connect points in south America to make the most of Avianca's current network.
Th 6 F100s that will be leaving OceanAir's fleet are going to be redistribuited within the Synergy group airlines. These are Avianca (where SAM operates its F100s) and VIP Ecuador -that currently only has 3 Dorniers 328-, apart from Oceanair. It may also be possible that a Paraguayan start up is created.
2 767s and 1 757 are going to be trasferred to Avianca (Colombia). There is no word on the F50s.

Quoting Abrelosojos (Reply 2): Is anyone surprised? Along with the "new" RG, Ocean Air has no understanding of, or committment towards, any direction.
Its surprising, even annoying, how 2 sister companies are run in such a different manner (AV and O6). I guess this kind of moves are a direct result of the management style imposed by colombians, now thta their entire administration has moved to BOG, for obvious reaons.

We knew about 1 767 (PR-ONA??). What about the other one?? Is the 757 already flying for AV?? I think that's the one with winglets, and came somewhere from China, IIRC.
Those F-100 are becoming a real backbone for the Synergy group operation. Planes already paid for, very efficient for the actual routes they're flying, and quite nice to fly IMO.

I'm a really proud client of AV. Can't wait to try their new fleet!!
yes , it looks like that VIP will have a expansion with some F100 , and it would be nice some F50 .
the transfer of the 767s and 757 is no news it was talked before on another forum , but the planes haven't arrived at BOG . " they are in a ramp at GIG " ? any body know when would they arrived ?

Maybe the two F50s that AV recently transfered will come back to colombia, and the other three could go to VIP and replace the Dos.
Well, Oceanair did something worng, which was expanding too quickly. They need to resize, and rethink, then, when the A320s come, they can expand more conservatively. I also think that AV doesn´t need any more F100.

O6 was also analyzing the possibility to operate GRU-LAX as non-stop, but their intended plans have been apparently suspended as well.
The issue at stake was commented in this forum some weeks ago.
Or maybe soem will go to Aerogal?
I'm hearing an interesting rumour that Synergy (owner of AV) has or will acquire 40% of Aerogal..
Have you heard anything of the sort?
Aerogal has potential and ambitions. Now Synergy have spare planes. They could be a good match..
Only things is.. 757/767s will be good, but I understand that the F100s are not certified to operate at an airport as high as UIO? Not sure if they could yet be certified.

I wouldn´t think it would be too much of a problem, seeing that Icaro flies F-28s out of Quito and AV flies their F100 into PSO (Pasto, Colombia) which is more or less at the same altitude.

I don't doubt of the capabilities of the plane to operate at high altitude airfields. l just have a doubt certification -which if indeed non-existent, might be able to be obtained anyhow-
UIO is at 9228 ft amsl
PSO is at 5951 ft amsl.
I neglected to mention the 5 F50s that OceanAir is supressing from its fleet. Those could be very useful in Ecuador too.

I have also heard this rumor, although, i do wish to confirm it with the owner. None the less, why would somebody buy 40%, which gives them no choice of action, nor power to take decisions. As they say, when it comes to this, they at least buy 50 or 51%, not less.
About the F100, i had heard similar things saying it cant operate at this alt, but is it true? Perhaps. Would be good to hear the new plans.
