Egyptair is considering renewing some of its short to medium haul fleet , The renewal includes 7 of the Airline's 12 A320's , 4 A321's and 4 B735's .
The A320's and the B735's were delivered brand new to the Airline in the early 90's , while the A321 were delivered in 96/97 . The Airline hasn't placed any orders and hasn't even considered what type of A/C will be ordered . "It all depends on availability and deals from the manufacturers" the Chairman was quoted saying .
Efforts are still being made to meet the requirements for Star Alliance membership and are nearing conclusion . The joining ceremony is planned in Cairo in July 08 .
The Airline is also planning a brand new livery , the Chairman was quoted saying : " We are in the process to present our new brand very soon on one of our aircraft. No later than May we will show our new colors ". He added : " The brand will reflect the "spirit of Egypt" and the carrier's effort to make Cairo the principal gateway to Africa and points in the Middle East ". He pointed that changing the livery was necessary to present Egyptair as a new quality carrier .

Quoting ElmoTheHobo (Reply 2): Egyptair also flies 737-800s, 4 delivered with 8 more on the way. They are probably going to keep moving in that direction.
Historically , Egyptair is known to divide its orders between Airbus and Boeing . I can see this trend continuing , especially that most of the A/C that are due for renewal are Buses .

Heres something to think about
what if MS gets the 737-600-
737-666?
Wouldn't the 736 be a good replacement for the 735 though? I mean its pretty much the same frame, unless they want to go for the 318, because they already have 73NG pilots.

Good. Hopefully the sh***ty white-plane blue-tail will be history.
These elegant colors should have NEVER!!!!!!!! been changed

Its easy to come up with a better livery than the cheap and awful current blue-tail design.
Thank god it lasted just for a decade. I agree that the earthen red and gold livery was better.

I loved those colors! seeing the 767s at LAX.
they still look modern and nice, they should reapply the old colors and maybe add some cuves in front or something, the cheatline is a bit classic looking

Totally agree. They really shot themsleves in the foot with that one.
I recall, at the time they were changed, that the Head of Egyptair was in hot water with the President (of Egypt) over the change of livery, without having consulted him
That said, airlines need to freshen their livery every few years and the entry into STAR marks a new phase in the airline's history.
I've never had the opportunity to fly MS, but I would certainly like to in future.

So nearly! I think, however, that with MS having ordered the E170 (and seemingly quite pleased with them, given the increased order), that the 190 and 195 are the most likely replacements. I know that MS has taken delivery of the 738, but I still think that the E190/195 would be a better choice. Devillish bad luck for the 737, but there you go !!!
Here's to a bright future for MS ...

The current livery is not that old , it was introduced on or about 1995 . But i guess , as you pointed out , they wanted to introduce a new livery coinciding with officially joining Star Alliance marking a big milestone in the Airline's History .

I'm kind of partial to the first one, although I think they should move the boat like design to a cheatline style.
The second one is basically PIA only a color change
I actually dont think the livery will be going to any of those directions.
I could deffinetley see some gold like gulf air, along with blue and the horus sign. Were living the 21st century, liveries are getting color and depth by shading, so id like to see a version like that in alivery.
Airlines been on: AY, LX, SR, OS, SK, KF, EZY, FR, BA, LH, AF, TG, DC, FC,

The old livery was fine , but the problem is , the red and gold lines along the fuselage was too 70's .
On a side note , Rolls-Royce has agreed to establish a jointly-owned management services company in Cairo. It will provide EgyptAir with support for its new engine workshop, as well as data management, and technical and logistics services for engines, including the Trent 700 and V2500.
Abdel Aziz Fadel, Chairman and CEO of EgyptAir M&E said: "Our experience with the existing fleet of Trent 700-powered A330s has been excellent and we have been especially impressed with the engine’s performance in the hot, sandy conditions we operate in at Cairo. Rolls-Royce has shown it is sensitive to our in-service support needs and we are delighted to be extending our existing relationship with the company through its involvement in our maintenance and overhaul facility."

100% agree. The current livery was a shame and an insult over the previous livery. Sometimes I wonder how those decissions ever could be made...
By marketing folks with no clue. Did you guys at Lila offer any design alternatives to TAP Portugal before they made a choice? Man, I can't stand that "Jello" livery they adopted. I thought that one was a bad insult to good taste.
funny I had in mind the A300 to illustrate the old scheme of Eyptair, just found a pic of the A340 first

I used to live in Egypt and flew MS a lot. The 735s were/are the worst of the fleet, very old and they show it. The 738s are great, though.

About TAP latest livery. Mmmm, indeed when that livery appeared on the market we really had to get used to it but now we are used to it we like that livery more and more: just because its nice colours and it's very distinctive design. Ofcourse there are some details which should have worked out better.
Quoting SXDFC (Reply 16): Maybe Lila will be contracted to do this new MS livery?

Do you remember which B735 you were on ? I flew on SU-GBJ last year , and although it looked old from the outside ( it is 17 years old ) but it was very nice and spotless from the inside with very generous leg room , comfortable seats and a very efficient air conditioning .
