Why No Codeshare On ATL-AMS For DL/KL

Hi!

I was just wondering why these two airlines do not codeshare on this route. Does it have to do with traffic rights? It seems as if DL only codeshares with AF as part of AF/KL anyway, why is this?

KL/NW code share, DL/AF code share.....but KL and DL plus NW and AF dont code share....and CO does not code share with any of them on international services. It has to do with competition laws in the US and which airlines have operating immunity from price fixing. Even though all are SkyTeam members and code share on certain US domestic and intra-Europe routes.......not all alliance members are created equal.

KL/NW bascially operate as a single airline on routes accross the Atlantic, the same is not true of CO/KL for example.

not entirely true. DL does code on KL beyond its gateways and vice versa but DL doesn't code on KL over the water and vv. CO does codeshare w/ KL.

codesharing has nothing to do with antitrust immunity (ATI). DL, NW, and CO codeshare on each other but they do not and will not get antitrust immunity between themselves (ATI between domestic carriers is a merger as far as the gov't is concerned). Many carriers codeshare but do not have ATI.

The fences that exist between Skyteam carriers for codesharing are basically because of AF's desire to maintain the established relationships between carriers that existed before AF acquired KL.

Not entirely true. Check out NW4301 or AF9501.
