Does any one in here who is an airline pilot remember steping into the cockpit for their first revenue flight.
Can you describe what you were feeling.
For me it was increadible I couldn't believe it. It was something I had waited my whole life for and It felt sureal. Almost dream like. Walking out to the airplane and seeing the DC8 that I was about to fly was amazing.

Jetpilot, I know what you mean when you say it felt surreal. I experienced the same thing. We were scheduled for the first revenue flight after about 2 months in the sim. It felt a bit eery when we boarded an empty plane, only one instructor and two students.
But as soon as we were airborne we had no longer time to think about our feelings: we went to an airport not far away from Vienna (Bratislava, LZIB) for practising traffic patterns and landings. We did all the goodies like one engine-approaches, approaches with simulated emergencies, and so on. Our training helped us to "function" in real life, as we already did in the sim sessions.
But the greatest shock was yet to come: Normally, when you step out of a simulator, you are standing in front of a box. Now we were standing in front of a big aircraft! We couldn“t believe that we REALLY have flown this bird! It was a very surreal moment, and I“ll always remember the feelings I had this day about finally flying an airliner.
