This is great news. The 787 in 2008, can open up nonstop routes to the US. $ 787's by the end of that calender year.

Quoting Karan69 (Thread starter):
Mauritius,

Didn't AI briefly restart service there this past summer?

Quoting Karan69 (Thread starter):
Kathmandu, Karachi, Lahore, Colombo in SAARC countries.

Looks like AI and IC are going to be going head to head on some more of these routes. They already compete on routes like MAA-SIN, MAA-KUL, CCU-Dhaka, DEL-Bangkok, etc.

Quoting Karan69 (Thread starter):
Rome, Zurich and Moscow in Europe.

All cities AI served until the past few years. Nice to see them coming back online, eventually.

I'd bet on Houston.

There are more Indians in Houston, an Indian Consulate, and a much larger international business presence.

It will be awesome to see AI starting SFO ops. Great livery, pretty good airline as well. I saw the 744 down in LAX, and I thought it was a great looking plane, and I can't wait to see it in SFO. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be a BOM-FCO-SFO route. Probably not, but it would still be pretty cool.

For sure via ATQ. There is no point for AI to fly to YVR without a stop in ATQ. The Vancouver metroplitan area has the largest concentration of Sikhs/Punjabis outside of India and England.

I think actually it is second to the greater Toronto area which has larger numbers of that ethnic group(s)--it is certainly a large group in both.

Any plans for flights to S. America? Is there any potential traffic to S.Amican destinations and if yes, which cities...?

Any idea where these flights will originate from in India?

I hope it is not all Delhi, and Mumbai. Bangalore needs some service, seeing how the European careers are having this lucrative market all to themselves.

Tell me about it!! I was looking to book a ticket to BLR for last week of march, and fares start at USD 1400+ incl tax for weekday travel through Europe. Add another$100-200 more for weekend travel!! Even AI fares were around 1300+ incl tax, but I was too hesitant to go for it, given their run of bad luck at LAX over the last one year.

Bangalore and Chennai both. I hope AI finally links the south directly with Europe, otherwise the market is forever ceded to BA, LH and DL/AF.

most likely GRU via FCO or MXP would be good. I think BA has been milking the route uptill now.

Wasn't there a rumor about AI doing India-Africa-Brazil?

Most probably it will be!

Dallas/Houston

Surely, they are not going to service both cities?

Don't hold your breath. Hell, DFW can't even keep MX interested. Nope, I would say that that IAH is a shoe in.

Thanks for this info. Any idea what the naming convention will be for the 787s?

Wasn't IXE building a larger set of runways to be opened up by 2008 or so, or was that for domestic traffic?

IXE is scheduled to be declared as an international airport in this year. There will be services to SHJ from AIX (Air India Express). Air Deccan / King Fisher may start services to Gulf if permitted from govt.

Will they fly B787's or B777's to Australia? Must be looking at how Qantas is doing on that route?

However, while the delivery schedules are nice, the new destination list will see a lot of tweaking - so many routes are 'political'. However, the 787-8 will allow the carrier a lot of flexibility, even though the initial deliveries will replace the leased A310's.

Have you flown the A380 yet? I have. TWICE!
