Hi,
I purchased an Airband Radio last week (The one were you can listen to aircraft in your home), I was wondering if these things can be used on Aircraft?

Thank-You

I was even thinking if it would work in the a/c. I think it would! But no way:
It's banned!

But just an other idea: Did you ever take a little (good) compass inside the a/c? It's really nice to see the flight- heading and you are able to compare it with the route-map in the airline magazine. It's really fun!

Regards,
Patrick

I think there were a few threads on this quite a while back, both here and Tech/Ops. If you search for something like "radio," I'm sure you can get a whole lot of info.

Which part of that don't you understand?

Agree...totally inappropriate response to an innocent question. If you look at AerLingus330's profile you will see he's aged 13-15.

I think we all are quite innocent at that age, and wouldn't it be great if we could listen to our radios en-route. Pity more airlines aren't like UA with their channel 11 (think it's 11).

Enjoy flying EI330 but keep that radio safely switched off. In certain countries taking a scanner in is illegal so be careful!

CAN you use one? Sure
Are you ALLOWED to use one? Nope  Wink

Just hide it in your backpack, use headphones and have a cd player handy if the F/A wants to know what you're listening to.

I hope you're joking. What totally irresponsible advice to give to someone so young.

Was kinda meant as a joke, but would work none the less.

As far as being "totally irresponsible advice", I don't feel it is. I have yet to hear about a plane falling out of the sky due to somebody having a receiver onboard. Now if he started transmitting, it would be another story, but simply listening to ATC will not hurt anybody or anything.

Don't know if this is wise however! Not in the post 9/11 world. Wouldn't contemplate doing this on any flight myself, especially not in your country!

But I'm only a doctor and you're a law enforcement officer!!

I take your point, but airlines appear to be very strict with these rules and I assume there must be a reason they exist. Therefore, I feel they should be respected.

Thank-You for your Comments guys.

I was thinking...If I did bring it on Board and Had it on (Which I probably will not). Would the Pilots Reciever beep like a mobile phone near a Television?

I thought that just carrying one on would be a no-no. Doesn't TSA want to check them out? When I travel I usually check it through but would rather carry it on for obvious reasons.
