Air India's new adopted baby of the fleet will visit LHR again on Tuesday.

The B747-4B5 has been christened "Sanchi" and is registered VT-AIC. She will be operating AI 112 JFK-LHR-DEL-BOM and will be in Heathrow from about 0700hrs to 0845hrs in case any spotters want to check her out or photograph her.

I snapped this picture of her at LHR yesterday as she was en route to New York.

The family resemblance with her other siblings is quite remarkable!  Big grin

A hearty welcome to Sanchi to the Centaur fleet. So AI maintains its tradition of naming 744s after temples and historic cities. Only the registration sequence is rather new. I believe the 3rd B744 from KE joins the fleet end December 03. Maybe they'd name her Vijaynagara or Hampi or Mamallapuram.

B747-437B,

How come it's AIC ?? Is this the start of a new series ?? I guess this is ex KE (the -B5 tag) ??......is it on long lease or what ?

Makes sense anyway ......AI for Air India.....followed by A B C D etc.

Cheers

The DGCA website has had a list of available call-signs for Indian aircraft up and running for some time now. So, who has VT-AAA, and its not the obvious, who already have VT-ATA and VT-TAT . . .

I know that VT-TAT and VT-TTA are the Tata corporate jets, but haven't heard of VT-ATA though.

The most appropriate registration IMHO is TISCO's King Air which is registered VT-JRD.

VT-AAA flies Reliance colours, and I forgot what aircraft it was, I think it was a Gulfstream.

A good source is 99% sure he saw VT-AID on a remote stand in seoul last night, so thats a third ex Korean -400 for AI.

Looks like it. I believe the 2 ex-SQ A310s coming this month will bear VT-AIA and VT-AIB. As N754pr says above, the third KE 744 will bear VT-AID.

B747-437B,

No clue. With current question marks over DEL w/x operations and 3 daily westbound 744 launches (JFK/ORD/EWR), the rotations are changing so often that it is impossible to keep track. The only sure way is to keep an eye on LHR traffic to see if she headed westbound to ORD/JFK - you then know she will be back the next day heading eastbound.

To further update this discussion, VT-AID named "Kaziranga" is supposed to be arriving in Mumbai tonight. She will make her revenue service introduction later this week giving an active fleet of nine 744s.

I spotted VT-AIC at December 7 above Belgium, was glad to see a new AI registration!

AI passes over here several times a day, always a pleasure to look at...
