A recent posting stated that Air Transat is to retire its remaining L-1011-s and L-1011-500's and replace them with additional A310-300's. Has this been confirmed? When is Air Transat scheduled to receive these aircraft? As there is a major seating capacity reduction in the A310 when compared to the L-1011, does Air Transat no longer require the additional capacity? If this is not the case then it would seem more logical to replace the L-1011's with a combination of A300-600's and A310-300's.
If this is true then Air Transat must be very satisfied with the performance of the A310's. Can anyone confirm this? Also what aircraft comprise the current fleet?

The current fleet of L10's is not fully utilized hence their effective lift can be replaced by a smaller fleet of smaller aircraft.
I'm not aware where the 4 addl 313's are coming from. Perhaps they have not been sourced yet. The initial 6 313's are GE-powered and came from Emirates.
TAP has just announced their intent to order the 332 to replace their GE 313 fleet.......these would be a good fit for TS who have bought aircraft from TAP before.

TAP has made a wise choice by choosing the A 332 as it already has a few A 343s so it will be nicely compliment each other. Now TAP can fly its A 332 on Latin American routes which the A 313 couldnt do nonstop (some routes).
As for TS, A 313s have longer range than AB6s which is v crucial for TS because their European flights are long and some of their destinations in Europe cannot be served nonstop with an AB6 from YYZ/YUL.
TS should just stick with a fleet of A 313s and A 330s...btw are their ex EK A 310s all fitted with PTVs in every seat or have they removed it?

None of Transat's A310's have PTV's in them. I didn't know TAP finally decided on the A330's, as this has been talked about for quite a few years now.
Regarding Transat being happy with the A310, they aren't completely satisfied. Fuel burn is higher than first anticipated, and I think they have not been too maintenance friendly, but the low acquisition costs more than make up for that.
I would imagine TS will keep the A310's for a while, until they announce their major fleet renewal for 2006 or so.

L1011's ... retirement by April 2004. Too costly to maintain, problem getting spare parts, lots of delays, and generally too big for the market right now.

airwaysnewsonline reports today that TS retired 3 L15's on Sept 12th. The remaining 3 L10's and one more L15 will be retired by Dec 31st. The remaining 2 L15's will be retired in April 2004.
TS has operated the L10 since its inception in 1987. This will be a sad passing. No more L10's at YYZ after next April.

Wow, that is very sad news indeed. Air Transat acquired the 500's not too long ago and planned on using them further into the future. It really is unfortunate they will be phased out so soon. I guess my chances of flying in one again are greatly diminished.

Speaking of airplane parts:
Did you guys get a load of the article in Airliner World about Messier-Dowty donating a landing gear to the Air and Space Museum?
Dig this:
"As part of the aviation industry's centennial celebration of powered flight, Messier-Dowty plans to donate an Airbus A330 main landing gear to the Smithsonian's NASM.."
"...the donated landing gear was originally outfitted on an Airbus 330 airliner operated by Canadian charter company Air Transat"
Page 100, October issue.
Now, I've been pounding my head in all night wondrin' which landing gear of which 330 this came off of...
... hopefully they can get that charred rubber stench off before the dedication ceremony...

CessnaPimp;
That article is too funny! Which brings up the question - Once the GTAA is finished with that engineless 732 they're currently using to test gates at T-New, I wonder if they'll consider donating it to a worthy cause, too. Perhaps to the LBPIA fire fighting operations ;-]
