Is that per person? Did a quick search and found a fare for £1013 return per person on the QF website
on expedia.co.uk the cheapest fare i found was for £751 with Korean Air

Here are some mixed reviews of China Eastern on the LHR-PVG-SYD route.

Skytrax

Incidentally, if you do decide to fly with MU, on the return flight you will have to overnight in a Shanghai hotel to catch the connection to LHR. Don't worry, all this provided by China Eastern and is covered by your ticket, so no extra expense for you!

I have not flown MU, but a cousin did and he and his wife were not impressed. They flew First class from PVG-SYD-PVG, and the salad was frozen, and the white wine at warm. They said after the meal service, the did not see 1 crew member until it was time to serve the next meal. I will try and find the picture of the first class cabin then sent.

Just depends on where you want to stop over and your attitude towards comfort/cost.

BA has some very good fares at the minute in J. I assume that is what you are looking for with prices like those quoted in the post. OS is a reasonable cost carrier for up the front.

If price is a concern and you still want a bit of comfort, I could recommend BA's premium economy, it is much more expensive than their discounted Y, but I would say the service is better than J on MU.

And have you considered SQ, EK or CX?

I fly First Class up in the sky ...
