Thanks to all for those who answered my enquiry as to which is bigger at ORD (aa or ua).
My next question is such:
It looks like next year, due to business opportunities, I will be based at a university in the Midwest. I have been hoping for something not to far from ORD so i can escape easily if need be, but I could be in any major university in the region..... however it is likely ORD will end up being my hub anyway due to sheer size and proximity.
Well here is the thing, I'm probably going to need an escape from the midwest (afterall...do need some time with the boys right?) So I am planning to have an escape hatch about once a month, where I will jump on the plane to LHR.
My question is guys, what do you think. UA...and get status... or AA or BA even though BA means no points on cheaper econ fairs...or connect on the east coast and take virgin? Bare in mind that I should be making 2 or 3 trips per year to Australia on either NZ, UA or QF depending on ff program.
So guys, I want your opion, who am i better off with. UA's econ product doesn't seem too crash hot compared to BA...however Im curious to know if UA would often upgrade me if i did it say 12 or 13 times per year in addition to north american travel plus 2 or 3 trips per year to Australia. I had a look at UA's business class meals and they don't appear to be up there with BA...and AA's even less so. So what do you guys think.... I wanna know....which way am I best off?

If you flew WT+ you'd attain Gold status pretty easily. Not much more costly than WT from US cities. Get some pretty decent benefits as a result, use of First lounge and check-in and Molton Brown Spa at LHR .
If I were in your shoes and wasn't willing to go for WT+ I'd go for the UA. Economy Plus as a *A elite privilege is much better than BA's WT product and after all in the back it is all about the legroom.

A lady we've known for years, who is friends with my dad, had to move to Australia for her husband's job nearly 5 years ago. She's moving back to the United States, as her husband's company realized they were retards to send him out there when they needed him here all along. We sat down for dinner last night, and she said she has flown over 350,000 miles since moving out there, coming back and forth. Her husband's company flies her business class each way, and she travels United. Obviously she's attained elite status, and enjoys the bennifits. It sounds like UA is pretty decent.

You could always try BD via MAN which you could get UA miles on. Their economy is among the best I've experienced and it may be quicker for you to clear UK immigration in MAN. As they say,a change is as good as a rest.

Justify BA.
UA has a great fFP, good customer service, serves all of your destinations fairly conveinently, great elite, and you can try BD via MAN with your UA FFP.
United and mileage plus are exteremely popular on Flyertalk, because their a great program for lots of intl. flying.
