Hi i do many Longhaul flights from London Heathrow and Gatwick to Northern USA, Asia, Australasia, Africa, middle east, South America and Canada. So just about everywhere! I fly for a VA called BritishAirways Virtual. I mostly use 777-236's, 747-236/436 and 767-336ER. I realy enjoy using the FSnavigator for FS2000 as it is the easiest thing to use and realy reliable. I have logged over 1,300 hours on British Airways Virtual mostly doing longhaul flying. Depending on the length of the flight and the amount of time i have to fly i normaly fly at 4X speed over the Atlantic then down to normal over the land. This makes the flight a bit quicker and more interesting. As 6 hours seeing nothing but ocean is a bit boreing! Anyway i hope this helps

I strongly disagree with speeding up the sim-rate. Its just way to unrealistic. I have never ever done that. But thats me, you may differ. I have done lots of long haul flights. LAX-SYD, LAX-FRA, ORD-LHR, LAX-Tokyo, you name it. The best thing to do on a really long haul flight, (over 10 hrs.) is to do a night flight. Take off late at night if you want, it all depends on how late or early you sleep. After you have taken off, stay with it until you have reached your final cruising altitude, and make sure the planes navigation system, whichever you use, (I use the FMC with-PSS777) is set. Make sure the plane is heading ok, Plan your route. (When I have alot of time (Rarely ) I spend time to make a nice flightplan including plane, appx. crusing altitude and est. speed, flight depart/arrival info, etc...)Then once everything looks good, altitude good, speed good, navigation, set. Sleep or something. Just make sure you wake up before you need to descend.
On flights like 6 hrs., A good thing to do is take off in the morning or afternoon. Then you can watch the flight in progress whenver you want or can. This way youlll be able to land at around 6 or 7PM-or earlier, depending on when you start, or what your flight is. Hope these tips help .

Download FSNavigator from http://www.flightsim.com. This is the best program out there. First I plan my flight in FSNavigator. It even includes SIDs/STARs. I then takeoff, and engage FSNavigator (it links directly to FS98/2000 autopilot). It then flies the flight for me. It can also fly the approach, and land the plane. It calculates proper descent rate, and flies the STAR/ILS perfectly. You may want to flare manually though. After I am at cruising altitude, I turn the simulation rate up to 4X. I turn it back to normal once I am ready to descend.

I usually choose major cities. Whenever I get a new plane, I usually try to take it to the limit. I have quite a few longhaulers.
CDFAIR B744
Air Scandinavia A340-8000
Continental B777-200 (LRX? It can stay in the air for more than 21 hours)
SR MD11
BAE 146 (The designer mucked up the fuel consumption rate)
I've done
JFK-HKG several times
HKG-LHR
Wellington-LHR
Wellington-Helsinki
LHR-JFK
HKG-Geneva
I always set the rate to 4X once I start climbing. It takes several sessions of flight simming to complete a longhaul. I just save and resume later.
Cba, I still haven't worked out how to use the FS Navigator auto fly flightplan. Can you tell me how to do it?

For long haul flights I use FSN Navigator 3.0. I just program in all the waypoints, speed etc, take off, fly to cruise altitude, turn the auto pilot on, set the speed to 4x and go watch tv. Watching the screen for 9 hours is nuts, I have better things to do with my life. I check the sim regularly and when its time to decend i do it manualy.I get my enjoyment form arriving before the scheduale and burining the least fuel.

Where can I get good aircraft and a converter for FS2k? I have been looking in all the places where I got them for FS98 but I just can't seem to find many. And absolutely no luck with the converter, if it's still called that.

I've done some JFK-Heathrow flights. I'm thinking of doing an ultra long-range Chicago-Hong Kong flight too. I use the PSS 747 and 777. I love the FMC on those planes.

My longest is Stockholm-Darwin.
I used an A340-500 for this 15 hours flight.
What I didn't use was the sim rate. So it took me almost a whole day to make this flight.

Donder,
Download flight zip 2000 from flightsim.com. when you set it up go to the menu which says aircraft. Change the panel to the one that came with the 777-300. This will allow you to use GPS.

I think the longest flight ive made so far was last week in a Syrianair 747sp from Tel Aviv-Amsterdam (I know syrian wouldn't fly out of there but I ELAL doesn't use SPs, my fav plane, and Damascus sucks ) in Fs2k. Im not sure if Tel-Aviv-Schipol is farther than the JFK-LHR I flew saturday in a Pan Am SP, i will have to check that out.

JFK-HKG! Hah, that's nothing compared to my longest. I flew IAH-HKG in a CO 777-200ER. 16 hours.
Pacific:
If you have FS98, you need to download the FS98 patch for it to work. I used to have the same problem, the auto flightplan wouldn't work. Now I downloaded the patch and it does.

My longest flight with a clear destination was Gander-Keflavik, in a C-130, taking about 4 hours-I once took off from NRT in a BA 757, and just set the autopilot to cruise on 090-16 hours later I was near FLL so I landed there-That BA 757 had some screwed up modeling...

I fly for Northwest Virtual Airlines.
I weekly fly longhaul flights. mostly out of MSP.
destinations vary from AMS to Tokyo.
I normaly use the PSS777 or the Wilco B767 with their
FMC you can fly the route including STAR/SID very good. Longhaul flights are the best.
you just have to have some inflight movies
